Wally Brown, director of competition for Joe Gibbs Racing, released a statement in which he said the team had discovered tape across the lower corners of the fascia. The tape measured 2 inches broad by 5 1/2 inches long and had a thickness of.012 inches.

Brown stated that the change to our construction procedure was not properly vetted without our group and was therefore prohibited under NASCAR regulations. We apologise for any trouble this has caused, and be assured that we've done all possible to avoid it from happening again.
